Yes you can get over the counter miralax and put 1/8th a teaspoon into the food 2x a day. The main thing you can do is stop feeding kitty crack and this won't happen again www.catinfo.org Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat. Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingredient a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things? http://www.catinfo.org/#Learn_How_To_Rea... http://www.sniksnak.com/ac/petfooddefini... Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s, constipation, and a host of other problems. Male cats are especially prone to blockages from dry food. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. ( Have a fat cat?) An even bigger problem is that it IS dry and it dehydrates no matter how much your cat drinks Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food. Cats are not naturally big drinkers. 95% of the moisture is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Think about it. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive. http://www.catinfo.org/#My_Cat_is_Doing_... You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. THE BEST CAT FOODS CONTAIN NO GRAINS NO BYPRODUCTS Cats are meat eaters not cereal or rice eaters Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck in between. http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac… http://www.felinefuture.com/?p=470ary&ac… Please read about cat nutrition. http://www.catinfo.org/ http://www.catinfo.org/?link=felineobesi… http://maxshouse.com/feline_nutrition.ht… Prescription diets It is extremely rare that they should be fed The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with the people pushing it on them with their own research showing how great their food is. You probably need to improve your diet as you seem to have a constipation problem. For constipation, castor oil is very good for a one-off remedy as in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22c... but it is unsuitable for regular use. For constipation, suppositories, laxatives and enemas are all totally unnecessary if you eat the right foods. All fruit and vegetables in very large amounts are laxative. You need to permanently change your diet or you are likely to get colon cancer. Constipation can make you extremely unwell and can lead to colon cancer as it causes a build up of carcinogenic toxins in the system. The intake of foods such as milk, cheese, white rice, white flour and red meat should be restricted, because they tend to contribute to constipation. Any food that has had the fiber stripped out, the nutrients processed out or slows down the digestion is a constipation culprit. Here's a list of foods shown to cause constipation problems: •Meats, especially fatty meats, red meat and processed meats, •Dairy Products, such as cheese, ice cream and whole milk, •Fast Foods – burgers, French fries and other fried foods, pizza, etc., •Refined grains, like white rice or any refined white flour products, •Highly starchy foods – white potatoes, corn and all refined grains, •Pastries and other high sugar products, such as cakes, cookies and pies, •Deep-fried foods, chips and other foods that are high in bad fats. You can see lots more in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22n... which tells you "Natural Ways to Relieve Constipation" and the right foods to eat.

More moisture in the diet (wet food) and increase the frequency of litter box use. If your cat is reluctant to make a trip to the litter box, because of it is overweight, arthritic, or the boxes are not easily assessable, then the stool will sit longer in his colon and harden more. Lactulose is a good product, and giving small amounts of milk may clear out constipation.

Laxatone is good. I add water to my cats wet food to make the food the consistency of oatmeal. One of my kittens also had colace added to the diet, but laxatone works well also. Just add water to the wet food.

I was once advised to add a teaspoon or so of mashed pumpkin to my cat's food. It is important to consider what is the cause of the constipation for the best answer. In general, mashed pumpkin is user friendly and non-toxic to the cat. It worked well for my cat.

Not trying to freak you out but it's a possibility that you might have hemorrhoids (if you don't usually drink water--like when you where a kid or something). hemorrhoids are wads of veins that sit and the end of your rectum. so theyre pretty painful. you may wanna grab a mirror and check down there. they can be very painful because they block the flow of...poo...and cause constipation if thats not the case you probably have a regular (sorta) case of constipation. try laxatives and avoid things like cheese and ice cream. well, wait, you already did that. um...try going in for a colonoscopy for your doctors to view your colon. you can also try a colonic. a colonic is where water is released into your colon and sent into your intenstine with a tube that is inserted in your anus and the water would cause the muscles of the colon to contract and feces will feel the pressure and sort of flow out into a closed waste system. basically, you're getting cleaned out. you'll feel a bit of discomfort in the abdomen but you'll get cleaned out :] good luck!
