The way not to do it is starve yourself, to start with. Just exercise and eat right. I did....lost 90 LBS because of it. Starving yourself won't help at all. Drink more water, eat less before bed, and don't eat for stress are the 3 things I follow and i'm going pretty well if i don't say myself. 90 LBS isn't anything like 5-10lbs so take my advice. If you want anymore details, feel free to email me. ~Adia

Unless you have an identified medical issue your metabolism is normal. No one can tell you how many calories you should eat per day because you've not provided any biometric information. We all have different requirements which are dependent on our BMR, our daily activity level, and our extraordinary activities such as workouts, sports, etc. We also can't tell you how much exercise you need per day because we don't know your level of training and fitness. So, the only thing we can tell you is you have a misunderstanding of metabolism which is very common. One of the most common myths or misunderstandings in diet, nutrition, and fitness is that metabolic rate is responsible for a person's natural tendency toward being fat or thin or muscular. Or that metabolic rate can be changed to help lose fat or gain weight. This is not true and easy evidence of that fact can be found here ---> http://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator... where basal metabolic rate (BMR) can be calculated with only height, weight, sex, and age. If metabolism was responsible for gaining fat or staying thin, that natural tendency would have to be included in the calculation of BMR, but it's not. In other words, a naturally fat person and a naturally skinny person of the same height, weight, sex, and age will have the same metabolic rate. There will be no difference in their metabolism which means metabolism is not really a factor in natural tendencies toward being heavy or thin. It's important to understand this fact because it will put an end to the frustration that comes with trying to change the metabolic rate to create a specific effect such the loss or gain of body weight, fat, or muscle. Unless you have a real medical issue, your metabolism is fine and nothing you do is going to create more than a normal temporary change in metabolic rate. If it's important to you to blame something for being an ectomorph or an endomorph, then blame your parents because those propensities are inherited...genetic. Or blame your soma (body) type (ecto, endo, or mesomorph). But don't blame your metabolism because it is nothing more than the totality of the energy exchanges which happen every second of every day as required to sustain your life given the demands of the moment. Most people would be well advised to not even use the word metabolism as it has no real relevance to the problems of being an easy or hard gainer. It makes no more sense to think about your metabolism in regard to diet or exercise than it does to think about your car's horsepower when pressing on the gas pedal to go or the brake pedal to stop. If you're concerned with losing fat, gaining weight, building muscle, or maintaining, follow good diet, exercise, and fitness strategies and your metabolism will take care of itself. same here! I had an eating disorder but now im eating much better and i look great! What i started doing was: -30-60 minute workout 5x in a week.(jogging&walking) -Eating every 3 hours (to keep the metabolism up and burning fat) -Eating plenty of protein and low fat and carb -Lots of water -Workout in the morning -Add plenty of spices to your dishes, believe me it BOOSTS the metabolism up! -Sunday is your 'cheat day', so eat whatever you want! BUT ! Dont over do it by 'binging'. What i mean is if you want cake have 1 slice of it, or if you want a burger have 1 only not 2. The reason for a cheat day is to confuse your metabolism by changing the calorie intake all of a sudden and it speeds up to burn the food which helps in weight loss! But remember get back on track as of Monday!!! :) good luck hun!

Make sure you avoid starving yourself to death (or eating too little or irregularly) - doing either of those will generally lower your metabolism rate. To keep your metabolism up, exercise a lot (strength training is particularly good). Combine it with healthy nutrition (forget candy bars and junk food), and you should be seeing some rather good weight loss results soon. I wrote a free report on metabolism and how it relates to weight loss, which you can download here: http://www.how-to-diet.net/metabolism/metabolism.html Quick note - if you choose to stick with strength rather than aerobic exercise, you may end up not losing any weight. That's normal - it just means that whatever weight you might have is being turned into muscle tissue, which is always good!

Each pound of muscle on your body burns something like an extra 50 calories a day, so you could gain some muscle mass by doing a few exercises (like push-ups and such) each night. Green tea is also supposed to help with metabolism. Also, don't eat all that artificial crap and preservatives because that is really bad for your metabolism. Don't eat refined grains either (anything that says in the ingredients "enriched flour" or the like is bad. Look for things that say "Whole wheat flour", "whole grain", or "whole oats". The key word is "Whole".). Another thing I should mention is not to eat a significant amount of carbs and fat together in the same meal (ex. a peanut butter sandwich, a bagel with cream cheese, pizza, etc.). Your body will convert the calories from fat to energy and all the extra calories from the carbs will be stored in your body as fat. And I know you probably don't want to hear this, but exercise will greatly increase your metabolism. Any sort of physical activity will so this as a matter of fact. Join a sport or something that you think is fun, so it's not as mundane as running on a treadmill for an hour. And eat whenever you feel hungry. DON'T SKIP MEALS!!! That will make your body go into starvation mode which is very, very bad for your metabolism. Hope this helps.
