Toning your body, build muscle first or burn fat? Topic: Toning your body, build muscle first or burn fat?

Question: I don't have that much fat on me, I think about 10% body fat or a bit more, but I want to cut this down a bit. On top of that I want to build a bit of muscle. I want to look toned, but not buff like a body builder. To do this should I first burn off the desired amount of fat, then build the muscle, or vice versa? Or, is it more efficient/possible to do both?

its always better to burn down the fat first so it'll be easier for you to build muscle in the long run. Try dieting to lose fat and when you feel its time to start gaining weight, eat more protein and go easy on the carbs. 10% body fat isn't too much though, so in reality try doing both at the same time, do cardio workout and weight lifting exercises as much as possible

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if your trying to lose weight, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better: *1) Burn more calories then your consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity. Get a fitness calculator that you can put on your cell phone and computer. This will allow you to easily calculate this formula, log your daily calorie consumption, and log your physical activities. *2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement. Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as white potatoes) and drink lots of water. Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness For Dummies”. *4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety. *5) Educate yourself continually on health issues. A good free publication is “Dietary Guidelines For Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. *6) Make a life long commitment to good health. If you are 10 % body fat you should see abs already. So if you are just build muscle but if you not burn fat and then build muscle

Building muscle will ultimately help you burn fat. So I say do both at the same time. 3 days a week weight training, 4-5 days cardio

The Fat burning zone you see on most cardio machines is actually, the last thing you want to follow to tone your body, build muscle and burn fat. The best tool to use in achieving this goal is to use the fat burning furnace instead.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic! Get started today!
