Topic: What is the best fiber supplement?
June 16, 2019 / By Alannah Question:
Recently I went to the doctor and she recommended a high fiber diet and suggested taking a supplement. She recommended taking "Benefiber", but recently it has been recalled. What would the next best fiber supplement be?

Hopefully, you are also eating the high fiber diet with lots of grains and fresh vegetables. That should work well to keep you regular.
If you still need to supplement, there are lots of fiber supplements out there. Psyllium husk is the main ingredient in most fiber supplements like Proctor and Gamble's Metamucil and Life Force International's Intestinal Tone. Novartis' Benefiber uses wheat dextrin, which can be a problem with celiacs.
Make sure you follow label directions well and drink plenty of water throughout the day. If you decide to use fiber pills or capsules, take them first thing in the morning so that you won't have to get up in the middle of the night
Benefiber is simply a brand, there will be plenty of other brands of inulin fiber.
My local grocery store has a generic copy.
Really, lots of them out there....
Metamucil - but the big stores have their own store brands which are 1/2 as expensive. You can also get it without sugar. Get a couple good tablespoons of that a day. It really helps.
