I was going to do two weeks on the low carb and then two weeks on the low fat, I heard you can loose alot of weight that way, so can anyone tell me what to eat on those diets??

Don't listen to the Atkins detracters. They have been brainwashed by the food companies that paid off the FDA.
Atkins is not the only low-carb diet out there. Protein Power is pretty good. Here is a good rule of thumb from (Life Without Bread) no more than 72 grams of carbs a day! End of story. Adjust to your IDEAL body size up 10 or down 10 carbs but no more.
As to a previous poster who said you will leave out lots of nutrious foods on low carb please have them answer this question: Name one essential carbohydrate? Protein is essential and there are many essential fatty acides but not one essential carb! Why? Because your body can make glucose from fat and even protein as needed!
Besides, low carb does not mean NO carb. Low carb lifestyle includes the greenest vegetables and the richest fruits in moderate amounts. Most low carbers who do it right eat more fruit and veggies than they did before.
Regarding cycling on and off diets: Not a good idea. That will just stress your body. The idea of low carb is to get your body to learn AGAIN how to burn fat as fuel. Only people who get stuck might play with cycling but only for one or two days not 2 weeks!!! That is; one or two days of high carb--on fruits not starches!

Your chances are average. It really depends on the person. You could buy the little pee strips if you really want to turn it into a science experiment. They sell them by the diabetic supply's in the pharmacy.
Pretty much follow the diet as they give it to you in the book. Some things to avoid though are atkins or low carb products and shakes. Because even though they are "low carb" they seem to affect your sugar levels still sometimes, which will stop you from going into ketoacidosis.
I was going to do the same thing! I was thinking maybe doing just a week of low carb though, instead of 2 weeks.
I don't know if following the Atkin's diet is the best idea though.
Do more research online and just try to limit your carb intake properly, without consuming too much fat. Try going to amazon.com or bn.com to look for low carb books if you want more help that way.
I have lost weight on low fat diets in the past--weight watchers was the best. I just used my mom's old weight watchers book and counted points. I would recommend that, or just keep track of fat and calories on your own. Fruits and vegetables, grilled chicken breast, salad, tuna, there are tons of low fat foods, just check the labels and make sure you don't go overboard with the carbs...There are so many low fat foods like cereal, but they're loaded in carbs, which may make you gain back whatever weight you just lost with the low carb diet.

I suggest you run away from the Atkins Diet as fast as possible. This diet sounds really good on paper but isn't good for you. The whole idea is that the body converts carbs(both pasta and sugars) and fats for energy, the carbs you don't use get stored as fat. Simple soultion right? Eliminate the carbs, increase your protien and use fat for energy. The Atkins diet uses a low carb, high protein philosophy, unfortunatley, most high protien foods, like 80/20 ground beef, is still pretty high in fat, thus very harmful to your heart. With that said, a reduced carb diet coupled with smart decisions with lean meat and exercise is the best choice. Try eating lean fish, or bonless, skinless chicken breast, or a more lean choice of beef. Also, make sure you are eating throughout the day. Instead of 3 big meals, have 5 or 6 smaller meals. As for a lower fat diet, this is a great idea for your hearts sake, but you can't do a lower fat diet with 3 meals of pasta and no exercise and expect results. Balance is the best idea with exercise. You are what you eat! If you eat snickers and big mac's all day you will more than likely be a big mac :)

The Atkins diet isn't low fat, but it is low carb. What you eat is mostly proteins. Lots of meat, eggs, cheese, sour cream.
This diet isn't a life time diet, it is a temporary way to quickly lose weight. One of the problems with it is that you will burn muscle tissue. The result of this diet is that your body will produce Keytones which will are hard on the kidneys. So, if you chose this way to lose weight you can't be on the diet for long.
The low Fat diet is hard to be on because you can buy products that say low fat when in fact they really arn't. Also your body needs a certain amount of healthy fat to function well.
The best diet on the planet is 2,000 calories a day. Eat three meals, eat three snacks. The key is to not have big portions.
Americans tend to super size. Stop soda drinks, especially the no calorie kind or artificial sweetened kind. Stay away from refined foods (potato chips, white breads etc)
The best diet is NO diet......it is a change of habits and a life time being committed to a balanced diet.
The problem with NOT eating is that you will create a problem with your body........it will interrupt the lack of food as a warning of famine. OUr bodies are genetically wired for this. You body will then slow down metabolism, it will grab on to any calorie and or fat that it can and store it to protect you from a famine. Meanwhile YOU think you are dieting and you can't figure out why you arn't losing weight.
Best diet is a balanced healthy one.

No one diet will work for all body types. You need to try one and see if it works for you, and you feel good and healthy while on the diet.
My husband and I did Atkins for a year, and lost 40 pounds. But, it's hard to maintain that diet. We got off of it and went back to eating fairly normally, and we've both gained all the weight back, plus an additional 30 pounds. God, that SUCKS!
Go to Atkins.com for information on what's acceptable in the induction phase of the diet, which is the 1st 2 weeks.

The low carb diet is lacking a lot of nutrients because it cuts grains, fruits, and some veggis from your diet. There is also such thing as going too low fat. Your best approach is to aim for a diet that has about 45-65% of calories from carbohydrates (fruits, veggis, and grains) 20-35% fat (oils,added fats, nuts, etc.) and 10-35% calories from protein (lean meats such as lean ground beef, chicken breast, beans, etc.)

Atkins is bad for you. It is hard on your Heart. I don't like any diet that requires you to cut out one food group. You should just have a balanced diet, with lots of fruits and vegetables and water. Then get 20-30 min of excersize a day. That should keep you healthy.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

fad diets never work in the long run...seriously the best way to lose weight is exercise every day and follow the food pyramid, you have to incorporate low-fat healthy foods like fruits, veggies, nuts, whole grains, even some meat if you want, diary, etc. everything in small amounts every day, make it a lifestyle not a diet.
