Question: I am 19, 188lbs, and 5ft 6in, and female. I need a step by step process in losing weight. How many times to go to the gym? How many calories I should be eating now? As well as calorie deficit. Even getting my RMR(Resting metabolic rate) would be cool. Most importantly, how to keep the weight off? Please help! Even though I am healthy now I want to improve my health to its peak, by being a healthy weight. My goal weight is to be 130 or 140lbs. Either one is good. By December. I even have a gym membership and went to the gym 4x this week, but didn't even lose a pound. I was even eating a 1,800 calorie diet, but I'm not sure if its to much.

Concentrate on losing/burning fat. When you lose fat you will achieve the toned look, look slimmer, leaner and overall better. You can try P90X , but P90X costs $125 and it takes 90 days for results. For weight loss, dieting is more effective than exercising. Perhaps you could try The Great Australian Diet discussed below. Created by Australian health guru Dr John Tickell, the Great Australian Diet is touted as a return to natural foods and natural eating patterns. Tickell, an obstetrician turned sports medicine specialist, claims that after travelling the world and studying foods, he has discovered several simple rules which can help anyone lose weight healthily. He describes the Great Australian Diet as "anti-Atkins, anti-CSIRO" and emphasises the importance of carbohydrates in the diet, saying that the "two most important foods we eat -fruits and vegetables- are carbohydrates". Dr John also criticises the low GI diet because, he says, it frightens people off eating carbs. The Great Australian Diet is actually rather complicated, and may not be as easy to follow as Dr Tickell seems to think. First of all, he replaces the glycemic index with the HI, or 'Human Interference' factor. This means that foods which have been highly processed, such as salami, white bread and white rice, are considered unhealthy, and are replaced by unprocessed alternatives- raw and lightly cooked vegetables, fish, especially deep water fish and sardines, and small amounts of lean meat. 2/3 of the diet should be composed of vegetables and fruits, and 1/3 'bonus' foods, which are essentially lean proteins, and after the initial two day cleansing period, which is very low calorie, 15 different types of plants should be eaten every day. Since no calorie guidelines are given, and only vague instructions to eat 4 or 5 nuts and so on, this may be the downfall of many dieters. After all, its pretty easy to forget how many nuts, seeds and grains you have eaten. It may also be hard for people on busy schedules to keep to such a demanding diet, since eating out is restricted really to grilled fish and an occasional steak and vegetables. But the Great Australian Diet is much more than just an eating plan. Dieters get points for watching the sunset, hugging their children and other 'coping' activities, and use gentle exercise techniques to strengthen trunk and arm muscles. Walking is also part of the diet, which claims over 91 days to re-educate the body into natural rhythms. One of the selling points for me at least, is the resting weeks- after each three weeks on the diet, there are two weeks when you are allowed to eat freely, and recuperate. I'm 16 , same height & 140. I walk 1 mile twice a week. Try getting a 30 min workout in 4 times a week (it doesnt have to be in a gym). If your dieting you should take in 1000-1300 calories a day. Never less than 800 thats starving yourself (i know people that have done that & ended up in the hospital). Don't eat 1000 bad calories.. use the food pyramid as your guide get all the servings in. Burn more calories than you consume to start loosing the weight. Btw, dont pressure yourself to loose more than 10lbs a week (thats not good). Best of Luck !

The MOST important thing is to eat naturally..without medicines, chemicals, "starving" your self etc. first, it would be best for you to eat as healthy as possible..this will also help you considerably to lose weight gradually and naturally.. eat fresh fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of WATER..avoid all cokes, caffeines, smoking, alchohol etc. as these also add weight as well as they contain chemicals which disturb your natural bio rythmns as well as brain chemistry. try not to eat too much meat, and the meat you should eat should be "lean meat" such as steamed chicken and rice, or steamed fish with rice..and vegetables,, this should be your staple diet rice and vegetables with fruits..AVOID "JUNK FOOD" and "Fast Food" as this type of food is very unhealthy, lacking in vitamins really and has plenty of fattening molecules which make one gain weight and is not good . if you snack,, try fruits with yogurt or fruit yogurt and nuts.. nuts are very healthy for your body .and contain proteins. go for walks every evening or morning or whenever you get time each day for 1 hour or 2 hours..make this somewhere you enjoy walking even if you have to drive a bit to there..and make this a daily routine..you will enjoy it once you get into it ..and it makes you feel great after..just walking for 1 hour or 2 hours. if you do this..every day for one month ..you should lose around 10 pounds (.714 stone) per month until you get to your natural healthy weight.. look up on the internet for an idea of what your weight for your height should be ..and when you get to this weight,,your body will look very nice and you will feel very good. 10 pounds (.714 stone ) each month in 3 months you should lose 30 pounds (2 stones, 2 pounds)..for sure...but no junk food and dont drink alcohol or smoke, dont eat junk..just healthy food with vitamins and walking 1 hour or 2 hours every day..and drink plenty of water..this is guaranteed way to lose weight naturally and for good, if you stick to this, which you should,,as it makes you feel so much more positive due to the vitamins and lack of chemicals making you feel depressed... btw, forgot to mention,,just in case you dont know how to really make healthy meals..buy a "food steamer" at your local deparment store..they are very cheap and work very well..as well as buy a "rice cooker" which is also very cheap..eating rice is a great way to get your necessary carbs "healthy carbs" to lose weight and has lots of natural energy inside. you can buy asian rice at most large supermarkets or if you have a local oriental market..they sale quality asian rice.. thai or indian rice is good "jasmine rice".. buy corn or canola oil to sprinkle on vegetables or rice before steaming to add to taste as well as you can buy several nice spices like "cumin" or "Curry powders", etc.just sprinkle on the vegetables before steaming to give nice taste. drink "Green Tea" as this is very healthy and helps burn extra fat faster...you can buy quality green tea at most oriental shops or large supermarkets as well

When you have to lose 40, 50 or even 100 pounds or more then losing the weight becomes a monumental task! How can you safely lose weight? There are many ideas out there about this topic. Bottom line - if you expect to drop weight (and a lot of it) quickly and without much effort then forget it. It won't happen. Yes, there are people out there that have lost a lot of weight on crash or fad diets but what do they look like now? If you expect some magic answer or magic pill to take your excess weight away then be prepared to be disappointed. Statistically you will gain all your weight back and probably a lot more. In the end you will be no further ahead than when you started. Don't fall for the gimmicks. Here are the basics on how to lose weight effectively. 1. Try to avoid food that contains a lot of "fat" (Trans fat, total fat). 2. Try to do a little bit of exercise (whatever makes it fun: swimming, walking, jogging). 10-15 minutes a day is a good start. 3. DO NOT avoid all "fat" in the food. 4. Limit yeast intake for approximately 6 weeks then slowly introduce back into your diet a little at a time. 5. Don't fall for fancy advertising, magic pills, or quick solutions! 6. Keep a journal of EVERYTHING you eat for at least 2 weeks (1 month if possible). Be honest. What you learn about yourself will amaze you. 7. Begin your weight loss journey in small steps. 8. STOP eating candy, chips, soda/pop, "junk food", "fast food", etc immediately. 9. You need a well thought out plan to follow with goals. 10. Make a commitment to yourself that you are motivated to lose weight THIS TIME! There is no way to lose weight effectively and safely that doesn't require commitment, dedication and a strong desire from you. The faster and easier you lose weight, the faster you will gain it back. Give yourself 1/2 year to lose 20 lbs maximum, 1 year to lose 40 lbs and so on.
