Is my testosterone level "normal"?
Topic: Is my testosterone level "normal"?
November 14, 2019 / By Darcey Question:
I'm a 46 year old male. 5' 10" 165lbs. Non smoking, no drinking, thin frame, relatively healthy (I walk about 2 miles a day and I'm fairly active).
My Dr. At Kaiser Permanente said I'm within the normal range but I feel I'm too low. Could I benefit from therapy? Here are my results.
Testosterone Ultrasensitive, LC MS/MS 297ng/dL
Testosterone Free 55.3 pg/mL
Testosterone Total 364
I just want to improve my lousy sex life and have more energy to do things.

The best way to increase testosterone levels is exercise.
Scroll down to item #3 in the article below.
No smoking - no beer/ale - no booze - no drugs. ANY of these can interrupt blood flow to your penis resulting in diminished libido & cause erectile dysfunction or impotence.
Stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue, crappy diet, lack of exercise, & some medications can also cause malfunction at the junction.
The following article could prove beneficial to you:
Improve Sexual Virility - (For Guys)
Many men suffer from a low sex drive, sexual performance problems, and an overall lack of male virility. These problems can negatively impact a man's self-esteem, sense of self-worth, and the quality of his romantic relationships. However, problems with male virility and sexual functioning can be, in most cases, remedied. What follows is a list of lifestyle, health, and dietary factors that promote strong male virility and improved sexual function and performance.
Step 1 - GET ADEQUATE SLEEP
Your body needs adequate amounts of sleep in order to maximize sexual performance and sexual virility. A lack of sleep is a major cause of low sex drive and/or sexual problems. Strive to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night to increase and maintain sexual virility. Take afternoon rests or naps when possible.
Step 2 - DE-STRESS REGULARLY
Chronic stress is toxic to the body and can negatively impact sexual virility and sexual function. Strive to keep stress levels as low as possible in order to maximize not only your health and well-being, but to increase your sexual virility and sex drive. Meditate on a regular basis; do yoga moves in addition to deep breathing exercises to help unwind and de-stress.
Step 3 - EXERCISE REGULARLY
In addition to improving mental and physical health, regular exercise promotes healthy sexual function and helps to improve sexual virility. Aim to exercise at least 4-5 times per week, incorporating moderate cardiovascular exercise in addition to strength training. Regular exercise promotes healthy blood circulation and increases testosterone and growth hormone levels, all of which promote increased sexual virility and sexual function.
Step 4 - ELIMINATE JUNK FOOD
Eating a healthy diet promotes physical and emotional health as well as healthy sexual function and virility. A poor diet, one lacking in adequate nutrients and antioxidants, can result in a low sex drive and sexual performance problems, including impotence. Eat a diet heavy in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean cuts of meat and fish, and low-fat dairy to increase sexual virility and improve sexual function.
Step 5 - ADD GARLIC TO YOUR DIET
Garlic is rich in allicin, which can improve blood flow to the sexual organs, which in turn promotes healthy sexual function and strong, hard erections. Cut up some garlic and sprinkle it on your favorite foods. Or take a garlic supplement. Garlic is a sexual super food that can increase your sexual virility.
Step 6 - ADD AVOCADO TO YOUR DIET
Avocados are rich in folic acid and high in vitamin B6, both of which help to regulate sexual hormone function, which in turn helps to optimize sexual health and sexual virility. Add some avocado slices to your salad or on your sandwich.
Step 7 - EAT A BANANA DAILY
Bananas are another sexual super food that can help improve sexual function and increase sexual virility. Bananas are high in bromelain and b vitamins, both of which are potent sexual hormone regulators that can help improve sexual function, sexual desire, and sexual virility. Add a banana to your daily diet.

These are the best ways to increase your testosterone naturally. Good luck, hope this helps.
Learn to eat 6 meals a day instead of three. Yeah, everyone who is working out or has a fitness routine has heard this, but how many people actually stick to it. It is very hard to do, and you have to train yourself to eat 6 meals every 2-3 hours instead of three massive one. By doing this, you naturally regulate your hormonal processes and regulate your metabolism by keeping them from fluctuating or decreasing.
Include Monosaturated fats in your diet
Believe it or not, but the most important macro nutrient to consume in order to raise your testosterone is fat. Fat has influence on every hormonal process in the body and regulate your hormonal processes. Healthy mono saturated fats are the key to everyone's hormonal health. Essential Fatty Acids from sources such as peanuts, avocados, fish and healthy oils like flax seed, olive and canola are a great way to naturally boost testosterone levels.
Sleep at least 8 hours a day
Increase your dietary intake of cruciferous vegetables. Broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, turnips, cabbage and brussel sprouts have all been shown to dramatically reduce estrogen levels, thereby raising testosterone. Reduce your intake of soy. Soy protein raises the body' s levels of estrogen (the main female hormone) and this has a direct negative effect on testosterone levels.
Sleep 8 Hours a Day
Sleep at least 8 hours a day. Your body needs the proper amount of sleep to recover from stress and exercise. A lack of sleep contributes to cortisol production, and this will lower your testosterone levels by as much as 40% . To improve your sleep keep the bedroom cooler, avoid drinking liquids 2-3 hours before bed and use the bathroom right before going to bed.
Lower your daily stress levels around the house and at work. Identify the areas of your life that bring you stress and work on ways to relax throughout the day. When our body encounters a stressful situation, it releases cortisol which is a highly catabolic hormone that drops your testosterone levels.
Coumpound Exercises increase testosterone levels
Use compound exercises as the cornerstone of your workouts. Do the basics like squats, deadlifts, bench presses, rows, chin-ups, dips, lunges and military presses. This will place your muscles under the greatest amount of stress in the gym and will force your body to increase testosterone production.
Limit your consumption of alcohol. Alcohol should only be consumed in moderation, so now you have yet another physical excuse for only having a beer or two a week. Alcohol has a dramatic effect on testosterone levels, so try to limit your drinking behavior.
Increase your sexual activity - with one partner! Let's be safe!
Increase your sex life. Sexual stimulation causes the body to increase the production of oxytocin, endorphin production, and raises testosterone. It is ideal to have sex at least once a week to maintain high testosterone levels. Testosterone levels will drop rapidly if you have been sexually inactive for over a week.
Take the following natural supplements to help aid in the production of testosterone.
ZMA: ZMA is the most well known testosterone booster combining three natural vitamins and minerals into one capsule; Zinc, Magnesium aspartate and Vitamins B6. The combination of these three vitamins and minerals when taken as directed, will naturally promote testosterone production and increase levels enough to help improve your fitness goals.
The key to your issue is age. During this time, yes it is normal to begin having a lousy sex life. BUT, there are remedies!!! You can always use the testosterone gel that's out there.
My personal experience with middle-age patients who were successful, were ones that ate plenty of vitamin C and had a lot of foreplay before actually having the intercourse. Sometimes all the man needs is a little more stimulation than when he was younger. And that can be fun for many people. Some also recommended easting a small amount of dark chocolate before having nay kind of erotic session. Colas can be a great stimulant too, just one 12oz bottle or can [no more than a 16oz bottle] can help keep it up and get the receptors in the brain a little overdrive to get them moving and last a little longer.

The normal total testosterone range for adult men is from 241ng/dL to 827 ng/dL. You are on the low side of normal. There is a downside to testosterone therapy. It can shut down testosterone production from your testicles. Since the feedback mechanism will signal an increased testosterone level when therapy is used, your testicles no longer need to produce as much. This in turn reduces the sperm output from your testicles. It can leave you with no ejaculate save for clear seminal fluid. So before you start that make sure your doctor gives you all the information you need to make a decision. You may want to check with a urologist.

How is your mental health? Stress, depression and anxiety can lead to low energy and a sub-par sex life. On the other hand, you are 46 and well past your sexual peak. So what you are experiencing may just be a normal part of the aging process. I am of a similar age, and I use a penis health creme every day. I have read many articles about the benefits of Vitamins B5, D and C, and this creme delivers these vitamins directly to my penis. I feel like my sex life and overall penis health has improved as a result. It may really help you out. You should look into it.

Assertive doesn't mean aggressive just because you say it does. You seem to think you know what a feminist is. When all you really mean is: Any woman who doesn't act as I choose and who I don't mind alienating. So you've turned the word feminist into a pejorative and pretend that this version of the word has ANY connection to the real phenomenon. Real feminists are people that you've probably never met and never will. A woman who takes advantage of a man by gaining custody of her kids or by getting alimony paymens - is not necessarily a feminist. She might be - but one doesn't automatically follow the other. Women who are older or fat and who complain about men liking younger/ slender women - may be bitter but that doesn't automatically translate to being feminist. You say "i have never seen a single feminist on internet or real life who don't blame men for everything bad in this world." OF COURSE you havent' - that IS your definition of a feminist.

Originally Answered: How much dhea is necessary to increase testosterone significantly?
It would really depend on your metabolism. DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a precursor of both androgens (actually, DHT, dihydrotestosterone, is the most active androgen, not testo) and estrogens. It is transformed by enzymes in your body.
DHEA is naturally produced in your body by the adrenal glands, which are located atop your kidneys. The level of DHEA starts low at birth, and increase until adulthood, then slowly decrease with age. Testo/DHT in men does not necessarily decrease accordingly (DHT gets produced pretty steadily thoughout life, which causes the prostate to become too big), probably because there is a change in the production of some enzymes.
I don't think there is reliable data available yet on this use of DHEA. Actually, the role of DHEA in the body, and the uniqueness of its production in primates, is very mysterious at the moment.
