Question: Hey guys, well I need some opinions from people! So I've been on antidepressants since I was about 15. 3 years of which I was on Paxil(eww). My weight always averaged around 160-165 as I'm 6'3 tall, caucasian male. I was filled out in the right areas! But after years and years of being on paxil, I actually got up to 190lbs. Which is chubby for me!(Jowls,Chin, Marionette lines, chest, legs :P) Back in december, the 22nd, for reasons unknown I decided to cold turkey my medication. I stopped taking my paxil, had all the horrible withdrawal effects(reminiscent of heroin withdrawal) lol and by the beginning-mid March, I was down to 145-150lbs with not much effort! I came to learn that my paxil was not only making me gain weight, but preventing me from losing it as well.. I'm now 21, the storm has settled and my mind is clearing up....but here I am. Skinny, Frail, Thin wrists, ankles, neck etc etc. My question for you guy is, do you think that this rapid weight loss was detrimental for my health and if so, how can I gain some "healthy" weight back. Not just fat as I did while on my paxil....any suggestions, comments, stories of your own? Thank you guys!

you're young, naturally you'll gain "man weight" as you age. But at your height, you're going to need to take in quite a bit of calories. It's fun though! Eat whatever you want! Fatty stuff, it's all good. Drink beer too

leah, Starvation diets usually don't work, because the body thinks it is starving, and slows the metabolic rate way down to stay alive. BUT, if I have learned one thing, is not to say "never" or "always". Most people who try a starvation diet put the weight plus some right back on after they go off the diet, you got lucky with your genetic draw out of the deck. I am on the "eat right 4 your type" lifestyle, (it is lifelong, so it is a lot more than just a diet). I was hurt in a motorcycle crash back in 1996, and when I was treated at the local V.A. hospital, they put a Titanium rod down the marrow of my Tibia, and in so doing, shut down my Thyroid. In one month, I gained 60 pounds, and went from a size 12 to a size 22. Nothing the V.A. did could help with the problem, even putting me on Syn-thyroid for the rest of my life. After reading the book "eat right for your life", I followed the plan, and in four months, I lost the 60 pounds, plus 10 more. For me, being a type "O", carbs are poison, and gluten even more so. I can eat all kinds of proteins, so if it bled to get on my plate, I eat it. To keep from ingesting too much cholesterol, I also started taking orlistat, (trade name Alli), and my blood work is just fine. I have type "O" blood, and if you don't, that diet could be very bad for you. Go to your Library, and check out the book. You will need to know what your blood type is to be able to choose the right "diet" for your blood type. It worked when nothing else would for me, and a lot of my friends too. Brie

NO! NO! NO!!!! What you're doing by eating so little is starving yourself, and naturally your body is going to slow its metabolism down to compensate for the decrease in calorie intake. Once you start eating normally again, you're still going to have that slow metabolism and you're going to put the weight back on faster than ever. Eat a candy bar/hamburger with that slow metabolism and you're DOOMED!!! Don't worry so much about the quantity of what you eat as the quality. Try to go for a low fat, moderate carb/protein diet where you eat complex carbs (whole grain/whole wheat bread/cereal, brown rice) and lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish). Try to stay away from fast food and anything processed (chips, soda, microwave dinners, etc). Do a search for "maintenance calorie calculator" and find out what your maintenance is, take that amount and subtract 500 calories to find how much to eat to healthily lose weight.

distracted dining will get you in trouble avoid eating in front of a television or in a movie theater as you re bound to consume more calories

Increase your exercise, swimming is excellent for weight loss and toning. Decrease, even further, your calorie intake to 1,000 calories a day. Increase your consumption of water. We all 'plateau' from time to time. Persevere and it WILL come off, I promise.
