I have heard of doing this before. It is not oil it is Karo syrup found in the syrup section of the grocery store. I urge you to try something else first as there is just nothing I can say positive about giving your child this syrup. In a vegetable juicer put a 1/2 a pair (whole) and one small apple (minus the core and seeds as the seeds are toxic). Dilute it with water (1 part juice 1 part water) and give your son one cup every night forever. It should not take more than a week to see results but my bet is that you will see results with in a day or two. If you keep this up once he is no longer constipated it will keep him regular and kids love the taste. My children have not been constipated before but I have had 4 friends go through this (2 of which had pediatricians recommend the Karo Syrup). All but one tried my suggestion and had great results. Please consider it as it is a much healthier way to deal with the problems. Trust me that this is not the same as using juice purchased in the store as it will have live enzymes that really help in the digestive process. I hope that you try this and it works for your little guy. Good luck!

As a 4 month old, she should not be constipated at all as she should be on only formula or breast milk. Don't try anything!!!! It is normal for a breast fed baby to go only once a week!!!! If she is formula fed and you think she is constipated, then give a little extra water in her formula and hold off giving an solids, since she may be sensitive. just give her a couple of ounces of extra water and do not give anything but formula or water until your child is at least 6months old. She really does not need anything but breast milk or formula until 9 months or 1 year. Solids are more to learn about taste and texture, and for fun at this age. Just make sure that she gets enough of those. Also, if you do not mix enough water into the formula, that can cause constipation. And remember that if your daughter is turning red and really working when she poops. that is not constipation, that is just how a baby poos, it is not anything to be worried about. You only worry about it if they have gone more then 7 days (for a breastfed child) or 5 days ( for formula fed). If it is longer then that, then give some prune juice mixed with water (half and half). If no poo after 24 hours, then go to the doc. But red face, grunting, even crying and uncomfortable facial expressions and crying do not mean constipation, it just means they are working those muscles hard.

Karo is syrup, not oil. and it is by the pancakes and pancake syrup of all things. Took me awhile to find it too. I used it on my baby beacuse her specail formula was binding. SInce about 13 months or so I give her cut up grapes. The really help her when she is constipated. And she LOVES them. Karo is tricky because it can only go in warm temp or warm milk. can't go in anything cold because it won't dissolve. I would try the prunes or grapes. But if you have to use Karo (like I said, I used it for the first year) gently warm the milk to room temp before you add it. and don't use too much or he will get too runny.

You should try the prune juice or some other fruit juice as well. And give him a suppository if he hasn't done a smelly for 3 or 4 days.

i only know about Karo making syrup that's whats in pecan pie and if you put in low fat milk it will give you the runs. now caster oil is a good one if you locked up but don't us it to often he can be come dependent on it and any large store should have both the Karo syrup most likely in the baking isle and the cater oil most likely near pharmaceuticals

Karo is actaully corn syrup. I wouldnt use it my self. Try giving him teaspoon of miniral oil in the morning and some prune juice. There are alos baby enemias that could help.

Does she eat yogurt or cheese? There are plenty of sources of calcium besides milk if you think the milk is causing problems for her. Is she eating lots of other things that could be constipating? Rice, bananas, applesauce, toast? Keep pushing pears, peaches, prunes, grapes (cut in fourths), berries, etc. And offer water throughout the day as well.
